Final Update

All flushing has been completed in the Dorchester and Thorndale water systems.

There will be no flushing on Friday October 25.

Thursday morning update: In Dorchester, on Thursday October 24, flushing will be conducted on Calvert Pl, Thames Cres, and the Valleyview Subdivisions (Valleyview Cres, Manley Dr, Woodvale Dr, Foxhollow Dr, etc).  The rest of the Dorchester water system has been completed.

In Thorndale, flushing will be conducted in the Wye Creek subdivision, Rosewood subdivision, Ideal Dr, and Gerald Pkwy.  For Thorndale residents, it is recommended that water softeners are bypassed during the flushing hours (8 am to 4 pm) even if your area has been flushed.  The Thorndale water system is a small system and flushing at one end of the village may still disrupt the water at the opposite end of the village.

Thank you for your patience.

Tuesday Evening Update: In Dorchester, flushing has been completed north of the river and west of Dorchester Road (Tiner subdivision, Pondview Dr, Parkview Dr, Boardwalk subdivision, etc.).

On Wednesday October 23, flushing will be conducted east of Dorchester Road (Canterbury Dr, Thames Cres, Byron Ave, Oakwood Dr, Turnberry Dr, etc.).

In Thorndale, flushing will be conducted on Upper Queen St, King St, Harrison St, and move west into the Wye Creek and Rosewood subdivisions.

Monday Evening Update: Flushing has been completed on the north side of the river in the Dorchester water system.  Flushing will be conducted west of Dorchester Road (Tiner subdivision, Pondview Dr, Parkview Dr, Boardwalk subdivision, etc.) on Tuesday October 22. In Thorndale, flushing has been completed in the Meadowbrook and Foxborough subdivisions.  There will be no flushing conducted in the Thorndale water system on Tuesday October 22.

Monday, October 21: We will be flushing the north side of the river of the Dorchester water system.  In Thorndale, we will be starting on the east side of the village (Meadowbrook subdivision) and working west.

The Municipality of Thames Centre will be conducting the Fall Flushing Program during the week of Monday, October 21st to Friday, October 25th, 2024. The flushing will take place between the hours of 8am and 4pm.

Fire hydrant flushing is done to remove any sediment or stagnant water from the distribution system, and to test fire hydrant operation. These steps are being taken to improve the overall water quality within the distribution system and to ensure the delivery of the highest quality water possible.

As in the past, we suggest that residents switch water softeners to “bi-pass” and avoid doing laundry during the flushing times. Discoloured water may be observed and has the potential to stain clothing. If laundry has been stained during this period the Environmental Services Department has a wash additive available to remove the stains.

Once the flushing program has been completed, we ask that a cold water tap be turned on and let it run for approximately 2 (two) to 3 (three) minutes to flush out any discoloured water that may have accumulated in your water connection. If clean water is not experienced after this time, shut off the tap and repeat after 1 (one) hour. Due to the unpredictability of weather, operator availability (emergency situations), and the increasing size of the water systems it can be a challenge to know when a specific area will be flushed. Social media updates will be provided on a daily basis to inform residents where flushing will be taking place and where it has been completed.

We appreciate your patience and understanding during this period. If you have any questions, please reach out to the number below.
