To mark International Women’s Day on March 8th, this week we’re celebrating the incredible women who make a lasting impact in our communities! Today, we focus on Thames Centre’s Deputy Mayor Michelle Smibert.

With over 30 years of experience working in local government, Michelle has dedicated her career to building stronger communities. Deputy Mayor Smibert is a proud Western University graduate, holding both a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Masters of Public Administration. In her career she’s worked in a variety of roles for municipal governments in London, Stratford, Middlesex Centre, and Tillsonburg in a variety of roles, including serving as Town Clerk and Chief Administrative Officer.

Michelle sits on Middlesex County Council, is a member of the Dorchester Lions Club, serves on the executive committee of Ontario Small Urban Municipalities (OSUM), is the current Vice Chair of the Middlesex London Health Unit, and is a past President of the Association of Municipal Managers, Clerks and Treasurers Association of Ontario (AMCTO).

On this International Women’s Day, we recognize Michelle for her dedication to public service, and commitment to building a better community!
