A New Hiking Trail Awaits You Thames Centre!

Mayor McMillan joined KCCA, MP Karen Vecchio, Elgin-Middlesex-London, MPP Rob Flack for Elgin-Middlesex-London, Grant Jones KCCA Board Chair and Mayor of Southwold, Angela Coleman of Ontario Conservation as well as fellow KCCA Board members to celebrate the much anticipated Grand Opening of the Deer Ridge Conservation Area in Southwold today!

Thanks to the incredibly generous donation from Ted and Duggie Gills, this 46-acre treasure features a 1.7 km natural trail and represents KCCA’s first land acquisition since the 1970s. This wonderful gift is a vital step toward Canada’s goal of protecting 25% of our land and waters by 2025.

But that’s not all Ted and Duggie shared more exciting news at the event; that they are also donating an additional 15.58 acres, bringing the total to 61.5 acres!

They invite everyone to pause from their busy lives and reconnect with nature. As you walk the trails, Ted encourages you to listen to the trees, and take a closer look at something as small as a footprint. Within that simple mark may contain a hidden world—a tiny ecosystem full of life.
