THAMES CENTRE AWARDS OVER $10,000 IN COMMUNITY IMPROVEMENTS
Grants Incentivize Local Business to Make Improvements that Revitalize the Community
THAMES CENTRE – The Municipality of Thames Centre has approved funding for $10,500 in grants from the Community Improvement Fund.
The Community Improvement Plan (CIP) was approved by Council in April 2024, and its objectives include incentivizing investments in improving property.
“The CIP grants are helping to build a better Thames Centre,” said Economic Development Advisory Committee Chair Tom Heeman. “They support local businesses in making improvements to their property that also revitalize the community.”
The grants all have conditions that must be met by the applicant for funding to be delivered.
“CIP Grants are strategic investments in the retention of existing businesses, and the attraction of new ones,” said CAO David Barrick. “These projects are tangible improvements that will illustrate the investment readiness of Thames Centre.”
The grants and specific conditions for each project were approved by Council during a portion of the November 18 Council Meeting that was closed to the public to ensure the protection of private information.
The resolution that was passed approved conditional funding to:
· The Optimist Club (1653 Richmond Street) – up to $5,000 to support the paving a section of the property that is currently covered by gravel.
· Mortgage Teacher (2023 Dorchester Road) – up to $4,000 to for a new sign that will be positioned to increase traffic visibility.
· Ted’s Garage (2683 Putnam Road) – up to $2,500 to improve the front facing portion of the property.
