Thames Centre Secures $1.1 Million in Provincial Funding to Enhance Infrastructure
THAMES CENTRE - Wednesday, September 18, 2024 – The Ontario Ministry of Infrastructure has approved Thames Centre's grant submission for $1.1 million in funding through the Housing-Enabling Water Systems Fund (HEWSF), part of the province’s initiative to support the development, repair, and expansion of water, wastewater, and stormwater infrastructure. This investment will allow the Municipality to advance critical infrastructure with the province contributing 73 per cent in total eligible costs up to a maximum of $1,098,650 towards the Dorchester Wastewater System Pipe Integration project.
Specifically, the funding will support the construction of a new gravity sewer in Dorchester, crucial infrastructure required for effective wastewater management and responsible residential growth while providing long-term benefits to residents.
“Thank you to the province for this generous funding and to our dedicated staff for their hard work in making this possible. Achieving our goals requires collaboration across all levels of government, and funding like this provides the essential resources to improve critical infrastructure and ensure the long-term success of Thames Centre.” - Mayor Sharron McMillan
“We have proactively increased our grant submissions to help alleviate tax and rate pressures while enhancing service levels. Our targeted government relations strategy has focused on securing support for specific grant applications to the Ministry of Infrastructure, and we're thrilled to see tangible results like this for Thames Centre ratepayers. Securing over $1 million from the highly competitive Housing-Enabling Water Systems Fund (HEWSF) is a significant achievement for our Municipality, showcasing what we can accomplish when we are united and aligned as an organization.” - Chief Administrative Officer David Barrick
