THAMES CENTRE SETS BENCHMARKS FOR EMISSIONS & ENERGY USE
The Municipality is Implementing a Plan to Track Greenhouse Gas Emissions and Energy Usage
THAMES CENTRE – The Municipality of Thames Centre has published a new Corporate Benchmarking Report that analyzes its energy usage and greenhouse gas emissions.
The Environmental Advisory Committee received a third-party assessment from e-Mission Software Inc. that has established new benchmarks for measuring emissions from municipal government activities.
“These new benchmarks make local government more transparent and accountable to residents,” said Councillor Danielle Lockie, who Chairs the Environmental Advisory Committee. “Benchmarks let the public know how their local government is managing emissions. It also creates accountability for our energy consumption and will further incentivize our staff to reduce energy costs.”
As part of its commitment to combat climate change, Thames Centre joined the Partners for Climate Protection (PCP) program. The PCP framework is built on a series of milestones, the first of which is creating a baseline emissions inventory to establish emissions benchmarks.
“Tracking energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions will allow Thames Centre to follow through on its long-term goals of enhancing sustainability and using resources more efficiently,” said CAO David Barrick. “The completion of this Corporate Benchmarking Report means the Municipality is now eligible for additional grant funding to further offset local property tax pressures.”
