$85,300 OTF Grant From the Ontario Government Improves Accessibility at Thorndale Community Park

Thames Centre – On Monday, local MPP Rob Flack joined Thames Centre Council at Thorndale Community Park to celebrate the impact of an $85,300 Capital grant awarded through the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF). This grant has been used to level and pave the walking paths, making the park more accessible to everyone, including individuals with mobility challenges and the visually impaired.

“The newly paved and accessible walking paths at Thorndale Community Park will greatly enhance safety and enjoyment for all visitors, especially those with mobility challenges and visual impairments,” said Rob Flack, MPP for Elgin—Middlesex—London. “This project not only improves access to vital amenities like the playground, splash pad, and sports fields, but it also fosters a more connected and active community. By supporting local events such as the Thorndale Fall Fair and various fundraisers, we are contributing to the overall economic well-being of organizations like the Thorndale Agricultural Society, Lions Club, and Optimist Club. Together, we are building a more inclusive environment that benefits everyone.”

“We’re thankful to the Ontario Trillium Foundation for their support as well as our staff for their dedication to this project. The new accessible pathway will enhance the park experience for all, ensuring everyone in our community can fully enjoy the amenities.” stated Mayor McMillan

The new accessible walking paths allow safer and more enjoyable navigation throughout the park, benefiting the entire community and enhancing participation in community events hosted here, including the Thorndale Fall Fair and local fundraisers.

This project will not only improve safety but also foster a more connected and active community by enabling easier access to park amenities such as the playground, splash pad, and sports fields. By making Thorndale Community Park more accessible, the project contributes to the economic well-being of local organizations like the Thorndale Agricultural Society, Lions Club, and Optimist Club, which regularly host events at the park.

The Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) is an agency of the Ontario government that invests in building healthy and vibrant communities across the province. Last year, OTF invested more than $110M into 1,044 community projects and multi-sector partnerships. Visit otf.ca to learn more.
