Significant Weather Event Ends

Municipal Services to Return to Normal Operation Following Weather Event

THAMES CENTRE – As of 3:00 PM the Municipality of Thames Centre has declared an end to the ongoing Significant Weather Event. This means normal operations will resume and we will return to normal levels of service.

The Municipality had previously declared a Significant Weather Event due to heavy snowfall and wind-blown snow on December 5th at 12:30 PM. This weather event reduced visibility on roadways and made travel hazardous. Freezing rain on December 7th extended the duration of the Significant Weather Event.

“We thank residents for their patience over the last few days,” noted CAO David Barrick. “We also thank Emergency Services and other volunteers who helped us operate an emergency Warming and Reception Centre to accommodate motorists who were stranded after a multi-vehicle collision Thursday.”

"We also commend our snow removal teams,” added Barrick. “They have put in long hours to meet snow removal standards, and to keep our roads safe for residents.”

Though the Significant Weather Event has ended, residents are still advised to practice safe winter driving.
