Stay Safe at the Landfill
Safety on landfill sites is a responsibility that we take very seriously. The Municipality of Thames Centre's landfill is an industrial work site with large equipment, such as compactors and garbage trucks, continuously moving around. Here are a few safety tips to follow when visiting Thames Centre's Landfill.
Landfill safety tips
No speeding
Please respect the speed limits. The landfill is a working industrial site and speeding puts everyone at risk.
No smoking
The Municipality has a no smoking policy on the landfill. Smouldering material of any kind is not accepted due to the risk of fire.
No cell phone use
In Ontario, it's against the law to use your cell phone while driving.
No scavenging
The Municipality has a strict no scavenging policy for the landfill [By-law 042-2012 Sec. 6(7)]. Scavenging creates unnecessary danger and risk to your personal health and safety.
Stay inside your vehicle
If you must exit your vehicle at the landfill, stay within 20 feet of it and be aware of the location of heavy equipment at all times. Keep children and pets inside your vehicle at all times.
No abusive behaviour
Abusive behaviour - verbal or physical - against landfill employees at the scalehouse or any location at the landfill will not be tolerated.
