Thames Centre Receives $125,000 Charged for Change Grant
to Install EV Charging Stations
New EV Charging Stations to be Installed This Year
THAMES CENTRE – The Municipality of Thames Centre has been awarded $125,000 in funding to install new Electric Vehicle (EV) charging stations, thanks to the Aviva Canada Charged for Change program, in partnership with Earth Day Canada.
The new EV charging stations will be installed at the FlightExec Centre and the Thames Centre Municipal Office. Installation is expected to be completed in late 2025.
The charging stations will feature Level 2 AC chargers, which can charge electric vehicles two to five times as fast as Level 1 charger, according to Natural Resources Canada.
“We want to thank Aviva Canada and Earth Day Canada for their generous support,” said Mayor Sharron McMillan. “The Charged for Change grant enables us to introduce EV charging infrastructure into our community with a significantly reduced costs to taxpayers.”
The total installation cost is projected to be $138,366. Thames Centre is receiving a $125,000 grant from the Charged for Change program, which is approximately 90% of the total project cost.

In the Environmental Advisory Committee’s fall 2024 issues survey, 57% of respondents identified EV charging as a priority for Thames Centre.
“EV Charging stations were a topic that was raised by the community in surveys, and at our Green Town Hall meetings,” noted CAO David Barrick. “Thanks to cost savings and strategic planning, these charging stations are now more financially sustainable over the long-term.”
